Event Fundraising Audit
An event fundraising audit is an objective, top-to-bottom assessment of your entire program designed to answer four fundamental questions:
- What is the current landscape?
- What is the scope and make-up of the event fundraising program? That is, what are the components?
- What is the diversity in both income and expense range among the components?
- What is the overall resource support applied to the program?
- Where does the program sit in the overall development plan of the organization (and chapters or affiliates, if applicable)?
- How is it performing?
- What is the overall performance of the program and its components as compared to other programs internally and externally? How does my program benchmark against other event fundraising programs?
- How is the program trending over time? Has it kept pace with inflation? With increases in overall giving?
- What is propelling the trends? In other words, if there is growth, is it coming from increases in registration, fundraising, or both? Are some components trending differently than others?
- At the component program level, how is the aggregate performance distributed among the constituent events? That is, which events contribute most to the whole? Are some under-performing? Are some over-performing?
- At the event level, how is the performance distributed among the individual participants? That is, in each event, who is raising the most money? Are there commonalities in this group of participants? How many participants are not raising anything at all?
- Who are the major groups of constituents, and why do they participate?
- Why?
- What are the current operational tools in place for the organization, as well as your participants and donors?
- What are the current fundraising cases being used? What is the level of the ask?
- What is the current pricing structure, including registrations and incentives?
- What is the current cultural approach to the event program among volunteers, staff, and participants?
- What can be done to improve?
- Is there an overarching change needed to the positioning and fundraising ask of the program?
- Are there online communications strategies that can be implemented across the event(s)?
- Are there online and offline tools that can be developed for volunteers, participants, and donors?
- Are there other fundraising programs that can be layered on the event?
- Are there specifics areas or events on which organizational resources should be focused above others?
- What is a realistic growth projection with the implementation of changes?
- Is there return on investment on all of the above, at a level which meets cost of fundraising requirements?
Obviously, these are not trivial questions. What we seek to do through Event 360's audit process is to use both qualitative analysis (interviews and surveys) and quantitative analysis (data mining and modeling) to create a very detailed picture of your program, and very specific strategies to improve it.
