The verdict is in - donors want to hear from your organization!

AFP reports that donors don't feel that they are receiving too many communications from charitable organizations.

Contrary to public perception, a survey released at the Institute of Fundraising National Convention in London found that donors are not overwhelmed by charity communications. In fact, 72 percent of respondents said that the amount of communication that they received was "just enough" and 11 percent actually indicated that they would like to hear more from the organizations they supported.

"The perception we hear from the general media is that people receive too many charitable communications," said Paulette V. Maehara, CFRE, CAE, president and CEO of AFP. "The study helps show that this perception is not always correct, although we need to be careful about differentiating between tried and true donors and the general public."

These findings are encouraging for nonprofit organizations looking for opportunities to keep their constituents engaged and raising funds for their cause. By targeting different segments and customizing communications, nonprofits are likely to have the most success achieving these goals. Event 360 has worked with multiple clients on strategic e-communications plans and the results have been overwhelmingly positive. Knowing now that donors and participants want to hear from the charities they support, it is more important than ever to have a strategic plan for communicating with these constituents in place.
